INTRODUCTION:

The Senior Accounting Specialist is responsible for executing comprehensive accounting tasks related to the financial operations of Waccamaw EOC, Inc. This role includes the accurate processing and recording of transactions, including payroll, aiding in the reconciliation of financial statements and reports, organizing and categorizing financial documents, maintaining records of the agency's financial activities, ensuring timely deposits, and keeping the Finance Director informed of any significant financial matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitates the review and analysis of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate processing.
  • Oversees the complete payroll process, including data entry, issuing checks, preparing direct deposits, and managing payroll tax payments.
  • Handles accounts payable functions, including vendor check issuance.
  • Records transactions in journals, ledgers, and other financial records.
  • Maintains accurate employee leave accrual records.
  • Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports as necessary.
  • Assists in the review and verification of financial transactions for accuracy.
  • Maintains the agency's financial documents, records, and statements in an organized manner.
  • Supports the posting of general ledger entries.
  • Aids in the reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Contributes to the compilation and preparation of financial information for review by funding sources or independent auditors.
  • Participates in the formal bid procurement process, including preparation and advertising.
  • Ensures timely deposits are made as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Finance Director in compliance with applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS (ENTRY):
  • An associate degree in business or accounting with a minimum of two years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Proficient in operating personal computers.
  • Working knowledge of payroll systems and operations.
  • Ability to conduct visual analyses of detailed financial reports and documents.
  • Competence in storing and retrieving financial records.
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Mathematical skills for financial calculations.
  • Willingness to learn and apply accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Physical capability to lift boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRABLE):
  • In addition to the entry qualifications listed above.
  • A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in accounting-related coursework.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in grant accounting.
