Position Overview
This pivotal role is dedicated to overseeing and managing all aspects of the Secured Credit Division, with a focus on evaluating collateral for the bank's larger and more intricate commercial accounts.

Department Functions
The responsibilities of this division encompass appraisal oversight, approval of construction loan advances, monitoring of secured (asset-based) lending, and administration of dealer floor plans. Additionally, the Secured Credit Manager acts as the environmental risk officer for the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the Secured Credit team, ensuring comprehensive management of departmental functions.
  • Develop and implement training initiatives, including cross-training on credit evaluation as needed.
  • Draft and maintain policies related to Real Estate, Secured Lending, and Dealer Floor Plans, along with associated procedures.
  • Establish a robust internal control framework and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Negotiate and uphold service level agreements with business units, clarifying expectations for priorities and performance metrics.
  • Proactively address client concerns through direct engagement with borrower executives.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of environmental assessments, making informed decisions on transactions involving identified risks.
  • Collaborate with lenders and Credit Administration to structure deals, terms, and conditions effectively.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for Senior and Officers' Loan Committees during meetings.
  • Manage the 'Secured Credit Comments' section of credit packets, providing insights on collateral quality and recommendations for improvements.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports to Senior Loan Committees, emphasizing areas of potential risk.
  • Create and maintain various analytical tools, including Excel templates for budget tracking and cash flow analysis.
  • Participate in integration teams for new acquisitions as assigned.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors for professional services and software solutions.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the core loan system to address coding issues and other operational challenges.
  • Assist in the documentation and onboarding of monitored loans.
  • Occasionally travel to engage with clients or assess construction projects.
  • Develop tracking systems as necessary to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Respond to inquiries from auditors and examiners, ensuring transparency and compliance.
  • Prepare departmental budgets and assess resource needs, subject to approval.

Appraisal Management Duties

  • Manage the Approved Appraiser List, including vendor selection and performance monitoring.
  • Define the scope of appraisal engagements and maintain necessary documentation.
  • Oversee appraisal reviews to ensure adherence to established guidelines.
  • Act as the content administrator for the appraisal management platform, ensuring effective configuration and testing.
  • Demonstrate expertise in major valuation methods and perform complex appraisal reviews.

Construction Loan Responsibilities

  • Manage the Approved Inspectors List and determine inspection scopes based on project specifics.
  • Stay informed on construction law and evaluate contractor payment applications.
  • Approve advances on significant construction projects, ensuring budget compliance and monitoring for delays.

Secured Lending Duties

  • Oversee verification of borrowing capacity for credit lines through detailed analysis of client assets.
  • Implement safeguards to minimize risks associated with over-advances.
  • Identify and evaluate field examination firms.

Dealer Floor Plan Responsibilities

  • Manage loan exceptions related to vehicle valuations and maintain industry knowledge.
  • Analyze floor plan audit reports to identify potential credit risks.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting is essential; an MBA is preferred.
  • Specialized training in asset monitoring and valuation is required.
  • Thorough understanding of real estate appraisal methodologies is necessary.
  • Knowledge of regulatory environments related to commercial lending is crucial.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in a team-oriented setting.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel are necessary.
