Store Operations Manager - Advance Stores Company Inc

A Store Operations Manager is essential in motivating our workforce while ensuring our Customers thrive and our business flourishes with integrity. This professional-level sales and management role is capable of supporting various functions across the business spectrum. The position demands a comprehensive understanding of store systems, automotive knowledge, and the capability to identify, troubleshoot, and assist with DIY projects. The individual will be responsible for cultivating and sustaining Professional Customer relationships and driving program expansion. Accountability for achieving financial targets and upholding service and aesthetic standards is paramount. This role is exempt and requires a commitment of 50-55 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). The typical schedule consists of 5-6 days a week, with 11-hour shifts, including rotating nights and weekends, along with an hour for lunch. Additional hours may be necessary based on staffing needs, store conditions, sales targets, and other business demands. Store Operations Managers must adapt their schedules according to business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet overall store sales objectives and service goals.
  • Manage and enhance Professional Customer relationships/sales, ensuring the team executes Customer action plans effectively.
  • Oversee the selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store Team Members.
  • Ensure adherence to all inventory and operational standards.
  • Guide all Team Members to meet Customer expectations (both DIY and Professional).
  • Fulfill Manager on Duty responsibilities, including coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, and opening/closing duties.
  • Lead change management initiatives.
  • Promote diversity and foster a respectful environment for Customers and Team Members alike.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide DIY services such as battery installation, testing, and wiper installation.
  • Assist District/Region in various functions as needed.

Success Factors

  • Capability to become ASE P2 certified or an equivalent.
  • Expertise in executing and training on project and product quality recommendations.
  • Advanced skills in parts lookup and sourcing.
  • Ability to source from various channels, including special orders and second sources.
  • Proficiency in executing and training on all store operational processes and procedures, as well as testing and diagnostic equipment for DIY services.
  • Competence in executing and training on inventory systems and store equipment.
  • Ability to execute and train on POS and parts lookup systems.
  • Ability to analyze and review P&L statements.
  • Skill in recruiting, selecting, hiring, and developing quality Team Members.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with Professional Customers.

Essential Skills for Success as a Store Operations Manager

  • Working knowledge of automotive systems is preferred.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English (Spanish is a plus); capable of effective communication and relationship building with Customers, peers, and upper management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint preferred).
  • Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percentages.
  • Competence in reviewing and analyzing business reports, such as profit and loss statements (P&L).
  • Ability to hold others accountable, inspect work quality, and provide constructive feedback in an inspiring manner.
  • Flexibility to work various days, evenings, and weekends as required.

Prior Experience for Success

  • 2-3 years of experience managing a team in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Proven track record of managing profitability; demonstrated financial and business acumen.

Education and Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED; a Bachelor's degree in business or a related field is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • ASE certification is preferred but not mandatory.
