Our routine IPv4 scans, combined with the largest SSL/TLS Certificate database globally, provide clients with the most precise and continuously updated attack surface insights. Security teams within enterprises utilize Censys to stay ahead of business demands and gain a competitive edge against swiftly evolving cyber threats.

Position Overview:

Censys is in search of a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Manager to spearhead our Infrastructure & Operations team. We require a leader who can inspire our engineers to self-organize, enhance their technical skills, and advance their professional development while effectively assisting them in overcoming obstacles. At Censys, our managers recognize that empowering teams and distributing responsibilities is key to fostering innovation and creating opportunities for organizational improvement.

The Infrastructure & Operations team is tasked with enhancing the developer experience, collaborating with development teams on various projects, managing our cloud and application environments, and overseeing our on-premise data centers that support our scanning and data teams.

The SRE Manager will actively engage in the team's daily operations, from stand-up meetings to planning, refining, and prioritizing engineering tasks and deliverables. This role is crucial in empowering success through meticulous prioritization and collaboration with other engineering teams and business stakeholders to fulfill the broader Censys product roadmap objectives. Building trust with stakeholders through effective communication and follow-through is essential. This position entails extensive cross-organizational collaboration, requiring strong relationships with key partners. Successful interaction with internal clients, product engineering, and development teams is vital for achieving success.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in supporting large-scale, distributed systems, integrating both hardware and cloud expertise.
  • At least 3 years of experience in building and leading engineering teams, preferably in SRE, Infrastructure, or Production engineering.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with diverse technical and business teams across various management levels to influence decision-making.
  • Solid understanding of SRE principles, including monitoring, alerting, error budgets, fault analysis, and other reliability engineering concepts, with a focus on identifying opportunities to reduce toil through code and process enhancements.
  • Experience in supporting Software Engineering teams through a Platform approach, fostering a Dev-Sec-Ops culture that empowers development teams to manage their services from development through to production.
  • Strong emphasis on SRE as an engineering discipline, ideally with a background in software engineering and development methodologies.
  • Experience in managing or facilitating production outage escalations and incident response initiatives, along with coordinating vulnerability and patch management with IT and Corporate Security teams.
  • Preferred experience in operating hybrid on-premise and cloud environments, including data center operations and bare metal environments, focusing on high availability design, hardware capacity planning, network design and security, ISP peerings, and disaster recovery.
  • Preferred experience with Kubernetes-based application environments, including the maintenance and scaling of clusters with numerous nodes, and managing complex distributed systems through mechanisms such as auto-scaling.
  • Preferred experience managing a GCP-based cloud architecture, with efforts aimed at minimizing unnecessary cloud expenditures on underutilized or poorly optimized infrastructure.
Our target salary range for this position is between $160,000 USD and $225,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.

Censys is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply, even if they do not meet every qualification listed. You may be the ideal candidate for this role or other opportunities within our organization.

We value diversity and are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Censys is an equal opportunity employer.
