The City of Ann Arbor is seeking a skilled Public Works Engineer II to join our dedicated team. This role involves providing comprehensive engineering support to the Public Works Unit, ensuring effective project management and execution.
Salary Range:
$68,000 - $78,000 (Compensation will be based on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a vital resource for staff and manage projects from inception to completion.
- Administer engineering service contracts and conduct thorough plan reviews.
- Act as a liaison between field teams and other departmental staff.
- Assist in the implementation of a robust condition-based asset management program.
- Independently assess utility and infrastructure engineering challenges, reviewing plans and specifications.
- Coordinate efforts among consultants, contractors, and project staff.
Essential Duties:
- Conduct civil engineering design and oversee construction contract administration.
- Provide on-site support for the maintenance and repair of the City's water, sanitary, and stormwater systems.
- Perform onsite evaluations of infrastructure requiring improvements for both emergency and planned projects.
- Collaborate with city personnel and governmental bodies to leverage asset management tools for developing inspection, repair, and replacement strategies.
- Plan, develop, and manage engineering projects of various scales.
- Evaluate engineering assessments and work executed by consultants and other professionals.
- Prepare bid documentation and oversee contract administration, leading project teams and engaging with staff, consultants, and contractors.
- Conduct site visits to assess both above and below-ground infrastructure, inspect construction projects, and provide field support to public works crews.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of three years of experience in civil or environmental engineering.
Licensing Requirements:
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
- Valid Driver's License.
