Objective

The Educational Technology Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the professional development of educational staff within the DYS framework by facilitating the integration of technology. This position focuses on individual and group training sessions aimed at elevating teaching practices and improving student learning outcomes. The Specialist will also assist educators in tailoring learning experiences for youth across various educational pathways, including GED/HiSet, post-secondary education, online learning, and career exploration, while spearheading innovative approaches to blended learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the educational philosophy and vision of the CES DYS Education Initiative.
  • Lead ongoing professional development sessions for educators on effective technology use, employing diverse methodologies such as workshops and one-on-one coaching.
  • Collaborate with coordinators and program staff to enhance educational delivery.
  • Communicate and exemplify research-driven instructional strategies that boost student performance.
  • Guide educators in identifying and utilizing technology resources effectively, while regularly evaluating the impact of blended learning tools on student outcomes.
  • Work in partnership with other Instructional Coaches across various agencies.
  • Demonstrate exemplary instructional planning and delivery through collaborative teaching with selected educators.
  • Provide constructive, evidence-based feedback to educators regarding their use of instructional technologies.
  • Address instructional coaching requests from coordinators and educators.
  • Assist educators in effectively integrating technology across all subject areas and ensuring safe technology use.
  • Support educators in personalizing learning experiences for youth, including the use of data to inform instruction.
  • Innovate and create engaging learning opportunities that leverage technology.
  • Foster educators' professional growth in technology competencies.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the DYS/CES technology strategy to enhance student achievement.
  • Act as a liaison between educators and the DYS central technology department to address technology needs.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to support technology requirements across DYS programs.
  • Respond proactively to assigned tasks and challenges in a professional manner.
  • Facilitate connections between professional development and classroom application for educators.
  • Document coaching interactions and evaluate the effectiveness of coaching methodologies.
  • Assess technology use within DYS/CES, maintain an inventory of educational technology, and recommend effective tools for instructional settings.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational technologies.
  • Build and maintain online resource repositories for educators.
  • Organize and host virtual learning events.
  • Engage actively in professional communities focused on instructional technology.
  • Manage educational software accounts as directed.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of the host agency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current Massachusetts license in Technology in Education or relevant secondary subject area.
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience with commendable evaluations.
  • Proficiency in current educational technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience in juvenile justice education.
  • Advanced studies in Technology/Education or relevant experience.
  • Background in instructional coaching and professional development.
  • Familiarity with research-based instructional practices and technology integration.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and transport materials (up to 40 pounds).
  • Work may involve interruptions and shifting priorities.
  • Primarily indoor work environment with occasional outdoor programming.
  • Must maintain effective communication with diverse groups.
  • Requires situational awareness in fast-paced educational settings.
  • Extensive travel may be required.

Employment Terms

  • 185 days per year, Monday through Friday, following the CES/DYS school calendar.
  • 8-hour workdays with benefits as per CES Personnel Policies.
  • Position is part of a bargaining unit represented by SEIU 509.
  • Eligible for employer-subsidized health and other benefits.
