Role Responsibilities:

As the Environmental Education Specialist, you will be instrumental in promoting our mission of outdoor education and environmental responsibility.

Your primary duties will include developing and implementing engaging outdoor and environmental curricula that cater to the diverse ages and abilities of youth involved in our programs.

You will design educational content that aligns with NGSS, covering various topics such as geology, plant biology, wildlife habitats, and astronomy.

Additionally, you will assist in training staff to ensure effective delivery of outdoor and environmental education.

Your responsibilities will also encompass maintaining program equipment, conducting safety checks, and actively participating in all camp activities throughout the season.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development: Create and deliver outdoor and environmental education programs suitable for youth, utilizing natural settings and aligning with NGSS.
  • Curriculum Design: Develop curricula for camp and outdoor education initiatives that meet educational outcomes and comply with NGSS.
  • Activity Implementation: Facilitate a variety of engaging, age-appropriate activities related to outdoor and environmental education.
  • Safety Management: Ensure adherence to safety protocols during all activities.
  • Staff Training: Support the training of staff in outdoor and environmental education methodologies.
  • Resource Development: Create educational materials for excursions to local parks and nature reserves.
  • Equipment Oversight: Maintain and ensure the safety and cleanliness of educational equipment.
  • Hazard Monitoring: Identify and report hazards in the natural environment.
  • Inventory Control: Manage inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring timely replacements.
  • Daily Safety Checks: Conduct daily inspections of the area and equipment for safety and maintenance.
  • Camp Participation: Actively engage in all camp activities, leading and planning as required.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the camp team to deliver and supervise various programs and events.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Education, or a related field is required, along with a teaching credential. Experience in nature or environmental instruction is essential, as is familiarity with NGSS. Candidates should have experience working with diverse age groups and skill levels, and be prepared to stay at camp during the season. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a valid California driver's license are necessary.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are advantageous, as is familiarity with the educational landscape of high-need areas in Los Angeles. Candidates must also possess valid LIVE Scan, TB Clearance, and CPR Certification, or be willing to obtain them.

Work Environment:

This position typically operates within a standard work environment, with regular hours from Monday to Friday, and occasional weekends or evenings for events. Remote work options may be available. Travel to various program locations may be required, and participation in camp programs and excursions is mandatory.


Status: Full-time
Salary Range: $66,000 to $76,000 annually
