Educational Guidance Specialist

The Rossier School of Education is seeking dedicated Educational Guidance Specialists to provide exceptional postsecondary advising within high school environments. These specialists will assist students in navigating their college exploration, application processes, financial aid opportunities, and enrollment procedures. They will also organize informative presentations, workshops, and events aimed at fostering a culture of postsecondary success.

Educational Guidance Specialists will meticulously document student interactions and outcomes using our online tracking system to ensure performance metrics are met. Additionally, they will participate in summer training, ongoing professional development, and team meetings, while also contributing to various partnership initiatives. Specialists will report to the Program Director and collaborate with an on-site liaison at their designated school.

This role is a full-time commitment (37.5 hours/week) with a compensation rate of $22.00 per hour.

Important Note: While the Educational Guidance Specialist is an employee of the Rossier School of Education, their primary work location will be within a local high school setting.

The position is fixed-term, limited to two years, with the possibility of continuation into the second year based on performance and funding availability.

Overview

Since its inception, the Educational Guidance program has expanded significantly, now serving numerous schools across various districts. This initiative aims to enhance equity and expertise in educational access and outcomes.

Educational Guidance Specialists will play a vital role in supporting high school students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds:

  • 89% of students are from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
  • 74% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in their college search and application processes, including financial aid for various educational institutions.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and events that promote postsecondary education.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with school counselors, teachers, and administrators.
  • Collaborate with fellow Educational Guidance Specialists to enhance service delivery.
  • Document all student interactions to support program assessment and sustainability.
  • Prepare regular progress reports for program staff and school administration.
  • Engage in a comprehensive training program and ongoing professional development throughout the academic year.
  • Commit to a minimum of one academic year of service, with a preference for a two-year commitment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (students in their final year may apply for the subsequent academic year).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in student programs or services.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in record-keeping.
  • Creativity, independence, and a passion for educational equity.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is advantageous but not mandatory.
