Job Summary

Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is a leading environmental planning and resource management company seeking a highly skilled Senior Archaeologist to join our cultural resources team. As a core member of the team, the Senior Archaeologist will be responsible for successfully executing all aspects of project implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Lead fieldwork, including survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring, as well as archival research and technical report writing.
  • Cultural Resource Management: Gather data and information for environmental reports, and provide specialist technical advice on cultural resource management to clients.
  • Team Collaboration: Work independently and under the supervision of senior staff, and lead or assist with project management and proposal development.
  • Client Liaison: Develop positive relationships with clients and provide expert advice on cultural resource management.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulatory frameworks, including NEPA, CEQA, and NHP.
Requirements
  • Education: MA/MS in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
  • Certifications: Registering for Professional Archaeologists (RPA) status is required, and satisfaction of the Secretary of the Interiors Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • Skills: Operational knowledge of the prehistory and history of California and the Southwest, experience in the inventory and evaluation of prehistoric and historic archaeological resources, and experience writing quality regulatory compliance documents.
