Position Overview
A pivotal technical contributor within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to implementing stationary energy storage projects utilizing advanced technologies. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the proper commissioning of balance of plant equipment, playing a crucial role in project execution. The Tesla Energy division is dynamic and fast-paced, comprising a team of Applications, Power Systems, and Project Engineers who are integral to business development, Tesla's innovative technology, and the rollout of stationary storage initiatives on the grid. Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the onsite lead for the commissioning and acceptance testing of balance of plant equipment, including electrical systems such as switchgear, relay protection, metering, MV/LV transformers, and cabling. Oversee controls and communication networks, including switches, I/O devices, SCADA equipment, and auxiliary systems like fire detection, HMI, and UPS.
  • Analyze failures and propose corrective measures during the commissioning and startup phases.
  • Design and implement commissioning test plans, encompassing resource allocation, logistics, equipment, and scheduling.
  • Provide both local and remote technical assistance for troubleshooting during the commissioning process as required.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and execute testing protocols to achieve commercial operation, adhering to market regulations, local authority and utility requirements, and contractual milestones.
  • Promote continuous improvement by documenting and sharing issues, reviewing and updating equipment specifications and/or scopes of work to mitigate future challenges and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure safe and effective transitions to plant operations teams by creating training and handover documentation.
  • Manage administrative tasks including service reports, issue tracking, job safety analysis, and quality compliance.
  • This role demands a comprehensive understanding of basic design principles, constructability, permitting, utility requirements, and engineering fundamentals. A strong work ethic and a collaborative mindset are essential. Team members are expected to exhibit creativity, passion, and a commitment to innovation in a constantly evolving technological environment.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as an Electrical Commissioning Technician or Field Engineer.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in commissioning or performance testing for large-scale photovoltaic, storage, or other energy systems.
  • Expertise in testing transformers and balance of plant equipment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA protocols is advantageous (e.g., DNP3, GOOSE, and Modbus).
  • Proficient in Windows and Linux operating systems, SEL RTAC, relays and meters, SCADA gateways, managed Ethernet switches, media converters (fiber and serial), and digital input/output devices is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, demonstrating self-direction, attention to detail, organization, and adaptability.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time, occasionally on short notice.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer-centric problem-solving.
