Job Summary

Chapman University seeks a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Middle Eastern and North African Initiatives in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to foster a supportive and inclusive university community for students, faculty, and staff from the Middle East and North Africa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to advance MENA initiatives and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus.
  • Program Development and Management: Design and manage programs, services, and initiatives to support the academic, social, and cultural well-being of MENA students, including recruitment, retention, and success efforts.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, community partners, and external organizations to advance MENA initiatives and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Teaching and Education: Teach courses and provide education relating to the peoples and experiences from the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations on diversity and equity.
  • Communication and Outreach: Develop and maintain effective communication strategies to promote MENA initiatives and engage with the university community.
  • Training and Professional Development: Design and deliver training programs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree: Required
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of progressive experience in program development, recruitment, retention, and support activities for MENA and underrepresented students in higher education, non-profit agencies, community organizations, public school districts, or governmental units.
  • Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work some evenings and weekends, and ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree: Earned Doctorate or terminal degree in a relevant academic field and (5 years) progressive experience in program development, recruitment, retention, and support activities for MENA and underrepresented students in higher education, non-profit agencies, community organizations, public school districts, or governmental units.
  • Teaching Experience: Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Intercultural Program Development: Experience assisting in developing intercultural programs at the university level.
  • Strategic Planning: A demonstrated understanding of strategic planning, experience utilizing data and assessment to inform decision making, and effective program advocacy skills.
