Job Overview

Coherent Corp. is seeking a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer to enhance our Laser Systems division. This pivotal role involves the formulation, execution, and upkeep of quality assurance and control frameworks for our Global Tools Group. The Lead Quality Assurance Engineer will collaborate closely with the Business Unit Leader and engage with various functional teams across multiple manufacturing sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishes and articulates the standards, methodologies, and procedures for assessing, testing, and validating the precision, accuracy, and dependability of our products.
  • Oversees the planning, execution, and management of compliance with internal and external safety, quality, and regulatory standards for global distribution, ensuring adherence to specifications such as GMPs and ISO 9001.
  • Develops, implements, and sustains quality assurance protocols and methodologies for transforming raw materials into semi-finished or finished goods. Conducts training sessions on quality assurance systems.
  • Creates inspection and testing methods to evaluate the precision and accuracy of production processes, equipment, and final products. Conducts or verifies production and quality control audits.
  • Analyzes reports and production data to identify trends, recommending updates or modifications to quality standards and procedures as necessary. Aids product support teams in data collection and analysis.
  • Participates in engineering design reviews to integrate quality requirements and considerations.
  • Conducts vendor evaluation audits to assess qualifications.
  • Manages calibration needs for all facility equipment and performs gauge studies as required.
  • Acts as Lean Coordinator for the facility.
  • Serves as the Facility Safety Officer, including conducting safety audits, managing safety policies and employee training, and investigating incidents.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or a minimum of 4 years of experience in a Quality Assurance/Quality Control role.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in QA/QC is preferred.
  • Experience with inspection methods in the design, fabrication, and production of electro-mechanical systems is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and ISO 9001 QMS Audits is advantageous.
  • Experience in implementing safety programs and knowledge of MSDS and OSHA regulations is preferred.
  • Prior QA/QC experience in a custom or semi-custom product environment is desirable.
  • Experience as a standalone QA/QC resource for a facility or product line, with direct responsibility for strategy and tactical execution to meet quality objectives.

  • Ability to influence and drive results with or without formal authority.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written communication abilities.
Work Environment
  • Work is conducted in both office and manufacturing settings.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for an 8-hour shift.
