Position Overview
Metro Consulting Associates, LLC. is seeking a Lead Project Surveyor to enhance our team. MCA is a dynamic firm specializing in energy, land, and community development engineering and surveying, catering to both public and private sector clients across the Midwest. The Lead Project Surveyor plays a crucial role in bridging office preparation with field operations, ensuring the successful execution of survey projects while meeting the company’s profitability, safety, quality, and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive surveys for diverse applications, including boundary determination, easement placements, and site plan development.
- Investigate and assess client documentation, legal records, survey data, and land titles to gather essential information regarding properties and features in survey areas.
- Analyze project scopes, scrutinize legal documents, deeds, plats, maps, and survey drawings to fulfill client objectives, assist in boundary determinations, guide field crews, and draft opinions and descriptions.
- Oversee the preparation of all relevant charts, plots, maps, and records associated with surveys.
- Ensure the precision of field data, including measurements and calculations, collected from survey locations.
- Draft property boundary survey descriptions for incorporation into deeds, leases, easements, plat maps, or other legal documentation.
- Evaluate cut sheets for construction staking based on design specifications.
- Exceed client expectations through accurate, comprehensive, and timely communication between clients and MCA.
- Assist in formulating project budgets, implementing cost controls, and establishing schedules.
- Collaborate on and lead various facets of the survey quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Foster exceptional relationships within the company and with clients.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by senior management.
- Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to travel for client meetings and project sites as necessary.
- SIT, PS license, and/or CST level four certification preferred.
- Experience in budgeting and managing survey projects.
- Familiarity with ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, boundary surveys, construction layout, and field-to-finish procedures and methodologies.
- Field experience as a Chief Field Surveyor is advantageous.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil3D; knowledge of MicroStation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, proofreading skills, and concentration.
- Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, planning, and execution skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Primarily office-based work with the requirement to travel and/or work in the field as necessary.
- Frequent lifting or moving of objects up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Compensation ranges from $36.00 to $50.48 per hour, based on experience.
