Job Title: Quality Assurance - Nondestructive Testing Specialist Level II (Magnetic Particle Inspection)

Department: Quality Assurance

Role Summary
The Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Specialist Level II is responsible for evaluating and inspecting materials throughout various phases of the manufacturing process, with a focus on Nondestructive Testing methodologies. This role involves setting up and operating Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) apparatus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Material Evaluations
    • The primary duty of the NDT Specialist is to perform material evaluations utilizing magnetic particle testing techniques. The objective is to detect material imperfections, including incomplete welds, fractures, corrosion, or voids that could compromise functionality or safety.
  • Analyze Test Outcomes
    • Post-evaluation, the NDT Specialist interprets and assesses the results to determine material integrity. They are responsible for alerting supervisors regarding any defective processing of components or materials, which may involve rectifying surface imperfections using hand tools or marking parts for repair or disposal based on the severity of the defects.
  • Document Test Findings
    • The NDT Specialist is tasked with creating, updating, and distributing documentation related to the evaluations conducted. These reports typically detail the methodologies employed, the findings of the tests, and any recommendations for manufacturing teams or engineers.
  • Calibrate and Maintain Testing Equipment
    • To ensure precise test results and safeguard materials, the NDT Specialist is responsible for the calibration and upkeep of testing equipment. This includes reviewing equipment settings prior to evaluations and making necessary adjustments based on the material type being assessed.
  • Develop Testing Protocols
    • Under supervision, the NDT Specialist contributes to quality assurance initiatives by formulating testing protocols and procedures for their own tasks and those of fellow NDT professionals. This may involve creating policy manuals, conducting training sessions, or demonstrating proper techniques for equipment use and data management, ensuring adherence to record control processes.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, with one to three years of relevant experience or training, or a combination of education and experience.

Ability to apply logical reasoning to follow instructions provided in various formats and to address problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
