Job Overview

SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee and manage the facilities department within the plant. This includes ensuring that all repairs and scheduled maintenance for various facilities—such as warehouses, offices, utilities, administrative areas, production sites, and grounds—are completed on time. Key responsibilities involve the daily management of infrastructure and equipment, as well as modifications to existing systems to maintain operational efficiency and minimize production interruptions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise the Maintenance Department's operations across multiple shifts.
  • Conduct inspections of the facility to assess the utilization of buildings, spaces, equipment, and overall infrastructure.
  • Evaluate assets to ensure they are fit for their intended purposes.
  • Understand the lifecycle of equipment to provide informed recommendations regarding maintenance or replacement.
  • Investigate equipment failures in relation to expected performance timelines.
  • Maintain and monitor asset maintenance protocols.
  • Enhance equipment efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Improve departmental responsiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Source, install, and configure new equipment as necessary.
  • Analyze HVAC systems, network wiring, lighting, and other critical components.
  • Plan, budget, and schedule modifications to facilities, including cost estimates, bid documentation, layouts, and construction contracts.
  • Conduct audits to support facility planning initiatives.
  • Develop long-term strategies, conceptual designs, and capital expenditure requirements for facility enhancements.
  • Coordinate program specifications, proposal requirements, contracts, and related documentation.
  • Act as a liaison with public utility, environmental, and energy agencies.
  • Inspect construction and installation progress to ensure compliance with established specifications.
  • Review contracts for adherence to government regulations and suitability.
  • Oversee the allocation of building space, layout planning, and communication services.
  • Manage the Preventative Maintenance program to ensure timely inspections and servicing of all equipment.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

This position includes the management of subordinate supervisors and staff within the Facilities Maintenance Department. Responsibilities encompass the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit, in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Duties include interviewing, hiring, and training personnel; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving issues.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance if required.

  • Capability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, operating machinery, and maintenance equipment, along with the ability to plan building layouts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; alternatively, fifteen years of relevant experience in vocational management and training may be considered.

LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Competence in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from various stakeholders.

Mathematical skills include working with concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and geometry, as well as applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capability to interpret a range of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
