Position Title:

Academic Support Coordinator/Counselor

Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

50%
• Provide guidance and support to HEOP students in academic, personal, financial, and career matters. Conduct regular one-on-one sessions tailored to the needs of students at different academic levels. Assist with course selection and registration processes, and offer support for writing assignments as needed.
• Advise students on academic probation, ensuring they are aware of available resources and understand course expectations. Identify when additional support, such as tutoring, is necessary and oversee a team of tutors and mentors.
• Organize and facilitate Academic Success workshops, evaluating their effectiveness and making necessary adjustments. Train and supervise tutors to enhance the support provided to students.
• Assist in planning formal and informal program activities, and coordinate structured study sessions for students.
• Advocate for students' needs with faculty and staff.

• Collect and analyze data related to student attrition, retention, and graduation rates to inform program improvements.
• Plan and oversee the Academic Support Program throughout the academic year, including the Pre-freshman Summer Institute. Collaborate with faculty to address students' academic needs and ensure appropriate support is in place.
• Prepare reports for internal and state compliance, tracking support hours and student outcomes.
• Manage the publication of the HEOP newsletter and monitor students' academic performance through regular assessments.

• Participate in the recruitment and selection process for HEOP admissions, including outreach to high schools and college fairs. Administer assessments to determine student needs and support services.
• Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through ongoing assessments and feedback.
• Assist in organizing summer institute events and manage administrative tasks such as supply procurement and appointment scheduling.

Qualifications:


• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of two to three years of experience working with diverse student populations.
• Proven experience in designing and leading workshops and seminars.
• Familiarity with evaluation and research methodologies.

Skills:


• Strong self-direction and problem-solving abilities.
• Administrative experience in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and analyze program data.

Supervision:

Oversee all HEOP Student Tutors and support staff.

Work Environment:

A well-lit and ventilated workspace conducive to productivity.

Technology:

Proficient in MS Office Suite and other relevant software.
