Position Title:

Academic Support Coordinator/Counselor

Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive counseling and guidance to students in the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), focusing on academic, personal, financial, and career-related issues. Conduct regular one-on-one sessions with students, tailored to their academic standing, and assist with course selection and registration processes.
• Offer support to students on academic probation, ensuring they utilize available resources effectively and understand course requirements. Supervise a team of tutors and coordinate additional support services as needed.
• Develop and implement workshops aimed at enhancing academic success, evaluating their effectiveness and making necessary adjustments.
• Oversee the training and supervision of tutors, ensuring they are equipped to assist students effectively.
• Organize and manage formal and social events for program participants, fostering community engagement.
• Coordinate structured study sessions for students, advocating for their needs with faculty and staff.

• Collect and analyze data related to student retention, attrition, and graduation rates, using this information to inform program development.
• Plan and oversee the Academic Support Program throughout the academic year, including the Pre-freshman Summer Institute, collaborating with faculty to address students' academic needs.
• Prepare reports for internal and state requirements, ensuring accurate tracking of support hours and student outcomes.
• Manage the publication of the HEOP newsletter, communicating important updates and resources to students.
• Monitor and assess students' academic performance, requesting necessary evaluations from relevant offices.

20%
• Participate in the recruitment and selection process for HEOP admissions, including outreach to high schools and college fairs. Administer assessments to determine student needs and eligibility for support services.
• Conduct periodic evaluations of program effectiveness, adjusting strategies as necessary to support student success.
• Assist in organizing summer institute events and manage logistical needs, including office supplies and appointment scheduling.

Qualifications:


• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of two to three years of experience working with diverse student populations is essential.
• Proven experience in designing and facilitating workshops and seminars.
• Familiarity with evaluation and research methodologies is preferred.
• Must possess strong computer skills and be proficient in relevant software applications.

• Experience in administration within a higher education setting or similar environment.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups.
• Proficient in analyzing program data to inform decision-making.

Supervision:

Responsible for overseeing HEOP Student Tutors and related staff.

Work Environment:

Comfortable and well-equipped office setting.

Technology Utilization:


• Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access)
• Familiarity with data management systems and communication tools.

Job Type:

Full-time

Compensation:

$58,500.00 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
