Position Title:

Academic Support Coordinator/Counselor

Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

50%
• Provide counseling and guidance to students, focusing on academic, personal, financial, and career development. Conduct regular one-on-one sessions tailored to the needs of students at different academic levels. Assist with course selection and registration processes, as well as provide support for writing assignments.
• Offer academic advising to students on probation, ensuring they utilize available resources effectively. Monitor and supervise tutoring programs and other academic support services.
• Organize and facilitate workshops aimed at enhancing academic success. Evaluate the effectiveness of support programs and implement necessary improvements.
• Train and oversee tutors, ensuring they are equipped to assist students effectively.
• Coordinate and supervise structured study sessions for students.
• Act as an advocate for students in interactions with faculty and staff.

• Collect and analyze data related to student retention, attrition, and graduation rates.
• Plan and manage the Academic Support Program throughout the academic year, including the Pre-freshman Summer Institute. Collaborate with faculty to address the academic needs of students.
• Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accurate tracking of support hours and student outcomes.
• Develop and distribute newsletters to keep students informed about program updates.
• Monitor academic performance and request evaluations from relevant offices.
• Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Program Director.

• Identify and recruit prospective students for the program, reviewing applications and making admission decisions. Participate in outreach activities at high schools and college fairs.
• Assess the progress of program participants through regular evaluations.
• Assist in organizing events for the summer institute.
• Manage office supplies and student appointment scheduling.
• Reconcile and submit financial statements as required.

Qualifications:


• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related discipline is required.
• A minimum of two to three years of experience working with diverse student populations.
• Proven experience in designing and leading educational workshops.
• Familiarity with research and evaluation methodologies.
• Must possess strong computer skills.

Skills and Competencies:


• Strong self-direction and problem-solving abilities.
• Administrative experience in higher education or related sectors.
• Experience working with diverse groups of individuals.
• Ability to analyze and interpret program data effectively.

Supervision:

Oversee all academic support staff, including tutors and summer faculty.

Work Environment:

Comfortable and well-equipped office space.

Technology:


• Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access)
• Familiarity with data management systems and academic software.
