Court, selected middle/high schools in Fort Bend County, and families of truant students to address underlying causes of truant behavior. Assists principals, counselors, teachers, social workers, and student attendance specialists in the prevention and intervention of truant conduct for students at assigned campuses. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides prevention services to children considered at risk of entering the juvenile justice system and intervention services to juveniles engaged in misconduct before cases are filed with a court having jurisdiction over truancy matters which may include but is not limited to: Providing direct counseling for students and families and assisting with gathering funds from non-profit agencies for help with transportation issues and clothing for students. Collaborates with school personnel and other individuals designated by a truancy court to identify effective truancy prevention measures for students of the school district which may include but is not limited to: Walking the halls of middle schools and high school to ensure the assigned students are in class and performing their schoolwork; Attending and participating in student orientations and school programs as requested by the assigned school; Routinely meeting with at risk students who have truancy issues to intervene and help prevent referrals for truant conduct; Making appropriate referrals to crisis intervention and community resources. Provides services to children who have been referred to the J.P. Court or who are in jeopardy of being referred to the J.P. Court at the direction of the court which may include but is not limited to: Working intensely with the student and his/her family in their home to determine the level of social factors that may hinder the childs school attendance; Interacting with the home school by constantly communicating with attendance clerks, social workers, counselors, assistant principals, teachers, and student attendance specialists. Assists the Truancy Court in administering the court's juvenile docket and in supervising the court's orders in juvenile cases which may include but is not limited to: Being assigned a special, priority truancy caseload of students as determined by the J.P. Court; Attending court and testifying, as needed; Performing random home visits and conducting office visits with students and families; Preparing case plans on each case specifying goals for the parent and child; Maintain case file as required; Generating a compliance summary report indicating the juveniles progress and including recommendations to the court; Provides written reports to the court in response to motions to modify a remedy; Attending ARD meetings, as needed; Retrieving attendance, discipline, and grade reports weekly; Making necessary referrals to the appropriate crisis intervention programs, parenting education, and/or community resources; Following up on referrals to programs to ensure attendance. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or other state approved related field. Two years job related experience. Good computer skills. Verbal and written communication skill ; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials. Good organizational skills with the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Minimum 21 years of age per company policy. Eligible to be a Certified Juvenile Probation Officer. Subject to irregular work hours. STARTING SALARY: $26.00 - $37.09 per hour This position is eligible for additional compensation based upon state supplement and certification pay.
