Universal Avionics continues to move the avionics industry forward with both the latest iterations of our flagship products as well as designing the next generation of technology to ensure easier management and safety of all phases of flight.

As Universal Avionics' Avionics Systems Integration Engineer III, your work will consist ofassisting system engineering, sales and the business development group with proposals and customer integration of Universal Avionics equipment that adhere to FAA and EASA rules and regulations.

Integration engineering of avionics products and systems into aircraft. Responsibilities include engineering level avionics integration, data gathering activities, data analysis, avionics problem investigation, technical sales support, system operational demonstration, prototype development, supporting installers with interface solutions and aircraft certification activities.

This is a senior engineering position, requiring general instructions with minimal supervision on work assignments. Employee will be working assignments independently, with minimal oversight. They will possess the ability to generate detailed time and cost estimates for work activities. They willingly assume the role of Project Engineer for small simple projects with direct supervision of their activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Demonstrate initiative to innovate solutions to difficult problems and present ideas to engineering team
  • Generate time & cost estimates of assigned work activities
  • Give direction to support staff and less experienced engineers
  • Develop (or revise) content for Avionics System Block Diagrams
  • Develop (or revise) content for System Installation Manuals
  • Develop (or revise) content for Avionics Interface Manuals
  • Develop (or revise) content for System Port Allocation Table
  • Populate Aircraft Equipment Compatibility Survey
  • Generate quality avionics interconnect wiring prints
  • Perform systems bench operation and testing
  • Assist in problem verification testing and solution identification
  • Support Marketing with trade-show demonstrator mockups and equipment
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal team members and external stakeholders
  • Participate in team meetings and Engineering department innovation meetings
  • Report progress to senior engineers, managers, and program management
  • Address product support and field service technical questions
  • Review product support installation manuals, operator manuals, and configuration manuals
  • Strong understanding of avionicsintegration activities and certification standards, at a product (article) and aircraft level (i.e. TSO, PMA, AC and FAR)
  • Coordinate and direct external customer meetings, maintaining a professional demeaner at all times
  • Desired: aptitude for System Engineering design & development
  • Desired: knowledge of basic electrical circuits, wiring interconnection and tools (i.e. Multi-Meter, Oscilloscope, Bus Readers, etc.).
  • Desired: demonstrate basic project engineering skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in science, engineering, or a math discipline, or 4+ years of relevant experience working in an aircraft/avionics engineering environment (i.e. Military Service, work at aircraft installation facility associated with avionics integration).
  • Additional 3+ years working in a directly relevant integration engineering environment, clearly demonstrating ability to be a team player with professional attitude capable of performing in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Basic knowledge of avionics bus standards (i.e. Arinc 429, RS-422, etc.).
Computer Skills:
  • Proficient with a personal computer, computer operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet programs and ability to type.
  • Experience with developing drawings using AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design and drafting software application.
Language Skills:

Poses the ability to provide clear written and verbal English communication of system integration concerns to software, and hardware engineering teams, product support, manufacturing, marketing/sales, management, customers, and certification authorities.

Mathematical Skills:

Understanding of mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics, logic, sets and number systems).

Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to assimilate information from diverse sources to form a complete situational picture and develop a plan of action to accomplish the task.
  • Ability to extract system requirements from regulations and industry specifications.
