The Head of Business Development will lead the innovation, identification, development and execution of transformational projects to increase revenue, drive sales, expand markets and achieve Sunrun's financial goals. This role will create opportunities for diverse strategic and innovative projects, strategizing with executives and sales and marketing professionals to review current market trends in order to propose new business ideas to maximize the Company's strategic positioning and revenue margins. The incumbent will partner closely with our Head of Product and VP, Revenue Strategy and other senior executives across the company to support successful implementation and long-term sustainability of these projects. As a strategic thought leader, the role formulates innovative opportunities and strategies; identifies and develops growth opportunities, grows key services and service lines, assesses joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and market opportunities.

This position will report to the President of Revenue and support individuals that will be leading several high-profile initiatives, where rapid test and learning, detailed learning agendas, strong financial modeling, and new partnership models will be important.

This role requires a blend of collaboration, project (pilot) management, operational execution, business acumen and an in-depth understanding of all the activities involved in delivering a full solution that delights our customers and advances Sunrun's mission. The role will suit someone who enjoys challenging the status quo, has a real passion for delivering results and helping others, and has strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and evaluate potential new business opportunities, including partnerships, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, and organic growth initiatives
  • Lead the ideation, design, and implementation of pilots and tests for new and innovative products throughout Sunrun's sales, operations, and installation channels
  • Pursue advantageous strategic partnerships, alliances and joint ventures
  • Negotiate and finalize partnership agreements to enhance Sunrun's market position and growth targets.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to determine the viability of new ventures and develop business cases and financial models to support investment decisions.
  • Negotiate and structure deals that further the company's strategic goals.
  • Conduct in-depth industry research and an understanding of the market environment, including short- and long-term trends, competitor offerings, customer preferences, regulatory developments etc. to identify potential growth areas and emerging trends
  • Provide strategic thought leadership to advise and structure initiatives, identify key themes, develop mitigation plans, and make connections of opportunities across functional areas and regions
  • Oversee and manage a variety of highly prioritized projects, as well as complete ad-hoc projects, requests, and analysis
  • Provide strategic assessments and operating reviews of new and current business ventures and operations
  • Explore new markets and opportunities for Sunrun's products and services and develop and execute market entry strategies for expansion into new regions or industries
  • Identify, evaluate, and lead due diligence efforts and negotiations for potential M&A opportunities that align with the Sunrun's growth objectives.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing business development team while fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture within the business development department.
  • Work with both department and C-level leadership to drive their agendas and partner with them to identify, evaluate, prioritize and deliver strategic initiatives across the business.
  • Drive internal approval and consensus building
  • Work with Sunrun's President & Chief Revenue Officer and the Sunrun Executive Team to set, manage and execute quarterly and annual business goals
  • Work closely with Finance to develop and track program business case results and metrics, and to incorporate targets into budget
  • Strong focus on and partnership with Technology to further the Technology transformation
  • Operationalizing critical strategic parternips- top projects within the company
REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER SKILLS)
  • Strong technical, business and finance acumen
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Able to convey complex ideas in a strategic and concise fashion
  • Exceptional people skills; ability to engage and influence people across teams
  • Experience and deep knowledge with the residential solar industry
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with a portfolio of assignments and drive complex strategic projects to completion
  • Proven client management skills, including ability to interact with and influence senior company executives (SVPs, VPs, CFOs, Presidents, and C-Level Officers)
  • High EQ and IQ. Solution oriented, data driven, learning mindset
  • Embodies trust. Must have high ethical standards and ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Champions diversity of team, thought, and opinion
  • Proven record of good judgment and analytical skills, with attention to detail and consistency
  • Fluency with complex financial models and transaction structures, and an understanding of different business models in energy, and energy-adjacent, industries
  • Ability to travel 25%
Desired experience:
  • 10+ years experience and/or consulting experience in Business Development
  • 5+ years of experience in people management
  • Undergraduate required, MBA or Masters Preferred
  • Demonstrated cross-functional communication and relationship building skills with Senior Leadership and C-Level

Starting salary/wage for this opportunity:
$154,296.45 to $205,728.60

Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short and long term incentives, and program-specific awards.
