Job Description

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking an Accounting Assistant. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. First review of candidates will begin Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Creates and maintains files both public and confidential, inputs data into systems, and distributes reports; types form letters, labels, mail merges, and correspondence.

Reviews documents such as client records, purchase orders, and monthly statements in order to compute fees and charges due; reviews discrepancies in data; requests clarification or advises supervisor of issues related to data, and performs data verification in accordance with standard processes and procedures; prepares billing statements, bills, claims, and invoices for customer accounts.

Communicates with customers and third-party payers to obtain or relay information and to obtain pre-certification and authorization for amount of services billable; clarifies and updates customer billing records with information such as deductibles, copayments, and adjusted balances; resolves a variety of routine billing problems and disputes.

As a member of the accounting team, acts as back-up for accounting staff and cross trains on all accounting functions as necessary.

Job Requirements

Required experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

One year in bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative functions involving billing, record keeping, or accounting support.

Analytical skills, including research skills, ability to interpret data, ability to conceptualize, ability to analyze information, and ability to write formal recommendations based on findings.

Basic mathematical and accounting skills.

Preferred experience:

Budget-related skills, including advanced accounting, math, and statistics skills.

Experience in managed care organizations billing and claims reconciliation preferred.

Financial Management/Information records system.
