Description: Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Aging and Serious Illness (CASI) within the Mongan Institute and affiliated with the Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine is an interdisciplinary research center that aims to improve the well-being of older adults and enhance the lived experience of those with advanced illnesses. CASI aims to do this by creating a pipeline of strong investigators, convening investigators in the conduct of applied clinical studies, and supporting a robust research community. We are seeking an organized and enthusiastic Grants Administrator to provide life-cycle oversight and management to a portfolio of sponsored research projects. Individuals who are mission-driven, proven problem-solvers, and experienced with synthesizing information from myriad sources are ideal candidates for this position; prior experience with federal research grants or in clinical research settings is preferred but not required. The candidate will work under the general supervision of the CASI Director and Research Administrative Manager while collaborating with CASI Faculty Investigators and Program Managers. ** When applying, please upload (1) a resume; (2) cover letter; and (3) two work products demonstrating communication and grant management budget tracking or portfolio projection. ** PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Grant Administrator will work closely with others on the administrative team and within a highly collaborative environment to further the Center’s mission and goals. Principal duties include: Partnering with Principal Investigators and other study staff to oversee all aspects of the grant application process for selected proposals, including development of study budgets, drafting/editing proposal documents, and interfacing with submission portals Facilitating communication among collaborating sites regarding all phases of grant activity Understanding and conforming with applicable sponsor, institutional, and federal compliance regulations Providing counsel regarding grant spending strategy; anticipating and proactively addressing problems Collaborating with study staff to procure goods and services needed for research activities Monitoring project expenditures, planning for and providing timely closeout of all expired projects Collaborating with the Research Administrative Manager to guide and educate fellows and younger investigators in CASI/DPCGM about grant processes SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Planning and Workflow Management Skills: Ability to independently prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines Demonstrated capacity to be organized, flexible, and continually monitor of priorities Problem-solving ability, including the ability to gather information, identify resources, and imagine alternatives Communication Skills: Cognizant and respectful of cultural differences in communication approach Skillful at negotiating and building persuasive arguments supported by policy Technical Competencies: Attention to detail Proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Internet applications) and the ability to learn new computer applications Professionalism and Integrity: Excellent interpersonal and management skills, with facility to interact professionally at all levels Positive customer-service orientation Desire to promote change and initiate new ideas for constant improvement WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties will be carried out in a hybrid format, with time split between a typical office environment and remotely. Occasional hours outside the standard workday may be required, particularly around grant submission deadlines. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: The candidate will be responsible for managing CASI and the Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine’s current sponsored research award portfolio, for a total of approximately $10 million in fiscal responsibility.Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s or advanced degree Research Administration experience, preferably, in both pre- and post- award grant management.
