Process Engineering Manager

Essential Job Functions

§ Leads, analyzes and designs lean manufacturing processes using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize use of space, equipment, material, and personnel

§ Oversees development of plant layout and rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations for more efficient and cost effective processes

§ Ensures implementation of PSM policies and procedures; maintains processes as appropriate

§ Stays informed on new manufacturing technologies and equipment; finds opportunities to reduce cost through more efficient design and processes

§ Analyzes process changes; assesses effect on production and product; implements process improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency

§ Uses lean manufacturing principles; considers continuous improvement for new designs and updates to current designs

§ Supports current and new product introductions through system designs and updates as required; looks for cost savings and other cost reduction opportunities

§ Reviews and ensures vendors and subcontractors provide products, parts and services according to required specifications; assists in assessing vendors/subcontractors under consideration

§ Works with operations on implementation of quality and process improvements and new product development; utilizes scientific principles to determine process efficiencies

§ Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analyses; documents all work; ensures correct document iteration for document control system

§ Directs work of Process Engineers assigned to team; manages workload, performance, and day-to-day supervision of team; coaches team members for personal improvement and potential advancement; delivers performance feedback used for merit Increases and other applicable employment actions

§ Partners with other team managers to determine appropriate engineering resources for projects and processes; considers project cost, size and complexity

§ Acts as contact to EPC companies for capex and expense projects

§ Develops annual capital plan and budget for process engineering; ensures spending stays within plan; tracks spending; supports in writing and reports to management any variances in costs, schedules and overall plans

§ Works with other technical managers to define capital and expense project priorities and appropriate resources; maintains monthly, quarterly, and annual operations reports; delivers data to appropriate management

§ Employs key resources within Operations and other departments to identify and lead Continuous Improvement programs; promotes plans to improve safety, quality, cost and reliability

§ Performs gap analyses to identify future technological opportunities for processes or entire plant

§ Evaluates process efficiency, quality and safety; makes suggestions for improvements as needed

§ Supports incident investigations; provides suggestions as appropriate; participates in risk management reviews

§ Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and/or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate.

§ Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position.

Experience & KSA’s Required

§ Minimum of 10 years in chemical manufacturing

§ Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a process engineering environment with project concentration

§ Proficiency in process design

§ Minimum of 8 years’ leadership experience

§ Experience as a Process Engineer

§ Current knowledge of process engineering design, project implementation, and OSHA requirements for engineering design

§ Proven ability to build trusting relationships; ability to manage, motivate, coach and work with others

§ Proven organizational skills; ability to prioritize in a multi-tasking arena; goal oriented; influencing and negotiations skills

§ Productive time management skills required

§ Ability to work cross-functionally

§ Ability to coach and mentor others in the areas of project management, technology, and process design

§ High level of enthusiasm and motivation skills required

§ Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments

§ Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems, cad software and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company

§ Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization

Education Requirement

§ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

§ Professional Engineer Certification highly desirable

§ Six Sigma Certification a plus

This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100&degree;+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0&degree; in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
