Job Description:

The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) was established in 1974 to better respond to the County’s need for affordable housing. HOC is authorized to acquire, own, lease, and operate housing; to provide for the construction or renovation of housing; obtain financial assistance from any public or private source to assist its housing activities; and arrange for social services, resident services, and daycare.

Job Description:

HOC is seeking a Temporary Administrative Assistant for our Public Affairs Division to provide administrative support for the VP of Public Affairs & Communications confidential executive-level administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Requires extensive knowledge of office procedures policies and practices in order to assure the proper coordination of project tasks such as reviewing specialized reports, dissemination of information to personnel, and maintaining files.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings, interviews, and appointments.
  • Maintain control of records of incoming correspondence and action documents and follow up on work in progress to ensure timely reply or action.
  • Review all incoming and outgoing correspondence for accuracy and completeness before going to the Director for signature.
  • Coordinate preparation of monthly packet items and reports for the Legislative and Regulatory Committee.
  • Provide support to Housing Opportunities Community Partners organization as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of four years of progressively responsible secretarial/clerical experience in an office environment.

Education:

  • Requires Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of office management principles and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of large and complex filing systems.
  • Skill in operating personal computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Google (GSuite) environment for email, file storage, etc.
  • Ability to compose concise, accurate correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Good interpersonal skills with people with varied backgrounds.
  • Ability to exhibit discretion and sound judgment when dealing with confidential matters.
