Position Summary:

The Billing Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the billing process (batching) for all areas of the company to ensure what is completed is what was done on the indicated date of service. Their duties include posting payments into accounts, appeal claims, contact insurance companies to obtain claims status and ensure claim timely overturn. Coordinate with staff and providers to ensure clean claims are submitted all the time in a timely manner.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Batch every claim based on appointment block on a daily basis
  • Post payments received from insurances
  • Appeal any denials
  • Contact insurance companies to check status of claims or for any questions or concerns related to submitted claims / payments
  • Communicate with staff and providers regarding daily folder approvals / corrections
  • Review board to ensure all corrections have been reviewed and re-processed on a timely manner
  • Email providers, staff for any corrections or outstanding claims or folders.
  • Take patient payments over the phone through the square app.
  • Contact patients with past due accounts or returned payments for processing.
  • Escalate any claim issues to billing assistant manager / finance director for assistance
  • Run weekly reports and work them to ensure all claims are submitted
  • Review and comlog anything into patient accounts related to claims
  • Get everything ready for the weekly billing meetings
  • Ensure Treatment Coordinators collect correct co-payments, and deductibles to balance out accounts
  • Assist with specialty line when needed
  • Help out team members with other locations when needed
  • Assist with Audits when needed
  • Email monthly production report to providers every 1st of the month
  • Assist and be in communication with Treatment Coordinators for any assistance regarding accounts or claims
  • Keep daily track of duties into ninety to help stay on track of daily duties
  • Assist Assistant billing manager / finance director with duties if out as needed
  • Assume Treatment Coordinator role when needed
  • Go over accounts, and discuss balances with patients as needed

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Two years of billing experience or related experience preferred.
  • One year experience in insurance / customer service / scheduling preferred.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a workstation in an office environment.
