The Restaurant and Hospitality Manager/Sous Chef is responsible for all activities and staff in the Dining Service Department under the direction of the Director, Restaurant and Hospitality. Responsible for quality-of-service delivery during meal service, compliance with special diets offered by the community, and communicating with the management company on all appropriate matters.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develops a positive customer service culture in the dining room through staff training. Evaluates the quality of service and develops systems to maximize the efficiency of meal delivery while maintaining a pleasant dining experience.
  2. Ensures staff provides service that maintains good resident experiences during mealtimes. Circulates in the dining room to ascertain resident preferences and satisfaction with meals. Develops service systems that balance quality and speed of meal delivery.
  3. Screens, interviews, hires, trains, manages, and coaches all staff in the dining department in accordance with company protocol. Performs all evaluations as needed with all staff to ensure that all work done in the dietary department is done appropriately. Brings all performance issues to the Director, Restaurant and Hospitality or the Executive Director and takes appropriate action.
  4. Schedules employees to meet the labor budget allowed for the department and manages labor daily to control labor.
  5. Maintains a clean dining room. This includes all equipment, walls, table tops and bases, and chairs. Ensures linens are changed as needed and tabletop condiments and salt and pepper shakers are kept clean.
  6. Ensures they and any employees working with them work in a safe manner and that unsafe actions are managed. Compliant with Safety Committee Standard. Should workplace injuries occur, the Department Heads and Directors are to assist the Executive Director when required with the investigation, return to work, and management of the injured worker communication with care provider and Human Resources.
  7. Fosters teamwork with co-workers, shows initiative in overcoming obstacles, takes actions which assist others beyond job responsibilities, and has a positive impact on co-workers, residents, and visitors.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree strongly preferred in Business or a related field.
  • Must have prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience in food service preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to communicate verbally in person and over the phone.
