What Do We Need?

We need an experienced Director of Business Development that is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market presence, and fostering long-term relationships with clients and partners in the construction industry. This position reports to the CEO.  Essential duties include: 


  • Market Research and Analysis: Conducting thorough market research to identify potential clients, market trends, competitors, and new opportunities. Analyzing data to develop targeted strategies for business growth.
  • Generating Leads: Developing and implementing strategies to generate leads, such as attending industry events, networking, cold calling, and leveraging online platforms. This may also involve responding to requests for proposals (RFPs) and preparing proposals and presentations.
  • Managing Sales Pipeline: Overseeing the sales pipeline and ensuring a steady flow of projects. This involves maintaining accurate records, tracking progress, and addressing any bottlenecks or issues that may arise.
  • Market Positioning and Branding: Developing and executing marketing strategies to enhance the company's brand visibility and positioning in the market.
  • Strategic Alliances: Building strategic alliances with key industry players, government agencies, and industry associations to strengthen the company's position and leverage opportunities.
  • Trend Monitoring and Innovation: Keeping abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes that may impact the construction sector. Proactively integrating innovative solutions and best practices into the company's business development strategies.
  • Market Activation Tactics include: 
      • Attending events on behalf of Crain Construction to ensure we are part of all commercial development conversations and seen in the marketplace.
      • Identifying key networking opportunities for Crain Leadership and providing a monthly recommended calendar in advance of all events. 
      • Attending weekly business development meetings with leadership to review current projects, and outline relationship-building needs, and targets. 
      • Entertaining key clients or proposing opportunities for Crain leadership to engage with their clients (ie. fishing, golfing, sporting events, concerts).
      • Connecting and engaging with clients to monitor project progress and maintain connection throughout a project. 
      • Event planning efforts for client entertainment and company celebrations.

Who Is An Ideal Candidate?

  • MBA preferred, bachelor’s degree (Engineering or Construction Management a plus), or equivalent combination or training and experience required.
  • Seven to ten years of experience with a construction, development and/or commercial real estate company.
  • Proven track record of client relationship and sales development successes.
  • Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills
