Deputy Program Manager

 

The Deputy Program Manager has the supporting role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing out projects. They are accountable for the executing of portions of project scope, schedule, the project team and resources, and the project budget, as required by the PM.  The Deputy Program Manager is a point of contact for issues or discrepancies arising from within the project team before the problem escalates to higher authorities, as project representative.  The Deputy Program Manager is also responsible for communicating and collaborating with the project’s customer providing cost, schedule, and performance updates throughout the life of the project.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines
  • Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them
  • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project
  • Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
  • Communicating with the Program Manager and, when required, Branch leadership to keep the project aligned with their goals
  • Communicating with customers for requirements clarification, expectation management, schedule, and budget
  • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
  • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needed or financing for the project change

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, science, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to manage cost, schedule, and performance for any given project
  • Familiarity with the DoD 5000 acquisition processes
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including MS Project, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint

 

Certificates:  Preferred PMP, Preferred PM coursework

 

Clearance: Required Active Secret, Eligible to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance

 

Work Environment:

If available, the work environment is primarily at a PMAT office in the area of NAS Patuxent River or the greater Washington DC metro area.  Remote work is also acceptable depending on location and access to a PMAT office.  In some cases, work in a government facility may be required.  Travel will be required for customer engagement, team coordination, and potentially for business development.
