Job Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice and Palliative Care is responsible for the recruitment, training, placement, and supervision of volunteers who provide essential support to patients and families. This role ensures that volunteers are effectively integrated into the hospice and palliative care team, providing compassionate care and support in accordance with the organization’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment:
    • Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies to attract a diverse group of volunteers.
    • Create and distribute promotional materials to increase awareness and interest in volunteer opportunities.
  • Training:
    • Plan and conduct comprehensive training programs for new volunteers, covering topics such as hospice philosophy, palliative care, patient privacy (HIPAA), and emotional support.
    • Ensure ongoing education and development opportunities for volunteers.
  • Placement and Supervision:
    • Match volunteers with appropriate assignments based on skills, interests, and availability.
    • Provide regular supervision and support to volunteers, addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
    • Conduct periodic evaluations of volunteer performance and satisfaction.
  • Program Management:
    • Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, hours, and training.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the volunteer program.
    • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into the care team.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Foster relationships with community organizations, schools, and businesses to promote volunteerism.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Associates Degree in related field, Required. Bachelor’s degree in social work, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
    • Minimum of two years of experience in volunteer coordination, preferably in a healthcare or hospice setting.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups of people.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Compassionate and empathetic, with a commitment to the mission of hospice and palliative care.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as needed.
