About Win

Win is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness by providing transitional and supportive shelters for women-led families. Many of our families have escaped domestic violence and strive to keep their families together and safe. Win’s Income Building Program supports our clients by facilitating their transition from unemployment to employment and helping those already employed to improve their circumstances. This includes increasing wages, moving from part-time to full-time work, securing health benefits, and transitioning from off-the-books to on-the-books positions. Additionally, Win offers financial literacy workshops to equip our clients with essential skills such as budgeting, bill paying, and basic fiscal management. Win’s current operating budget is approximately $150 million, with $14 million raised privately through private and corporate funding, supporting programs and services including the Income Building Program and Camp Win.

 

Purpose of the Opportunity

The Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for the administration and management of volunteer programs, in-kind donations, and other projects in the Volunteer Services Department. This job includes project management, administrative tasks, volunteer supervision, and commuting to Win sites throughout New York City for programs/events (mostly weekdays, rarely evenings/weekends). The Coordinator works closely with the Interns, Manager, and Director to ensure the success of all Volunteer Services programs.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

Volunteer Coordination

  • Coordinate training, onboarding, and supervision of volunteers; lead virtual & in-person orientation presentations; and support volunteer operations & placements across organization
  • Coordinate all aspects of volunteer programs for Win (e.g., outreach to individual & group volunteers; program design, promotion, flyer creation, & evaluation; coordination with onsite staff & clients; day-of logistics & leadership; and intern scheduling & supervision)
  • Manage relationships with individuals & groups of volunteers (corporate & non-profit) to provide volunteer events for Win shelters and supportive housing programs (virtual and in-person)
  • Foster close relationships with Win Programs, Development, & Operations staff; liaise between clients, onsite staff, and volunteers to provide impactful and fulfilling experiences for everyone
  • Ensure that all volunteer programs and in-kind donations adhere to best practices of TIC (trauma-informed care) and DEI (diversity, equity, & inclusion) as set by the Director & Manager

 

In-Kind Donation Coordination

  • Assist the Manager & Director with identifying and cultivating in-kind donor relationships; coordinate in-kind donation deliveries, pick-ups, inspections, organization, and distribution
  • Manage day-to-day Donation Room operations, which includes supervising interns, assigning tasks to volunteers, seasonal reorganization, and donation distribution logistics
  • Assist with annual programs including the Backpack Buddies Drive, College Kit project, Holiday Gift Program, Gala, Impact Party, Volunteer & In-Kind Donor Reception, Thanksgiving food boxes, etc.

 

Communication and Reporting

  • Maintain up-to-date records on volunteers, events, and in-kind donations using a range of software including Salesforce, SurveyMonkey, Smartsheet, and Signup Genius
  • Write quarterly newsletter & work with Communications staff to promote programs externally
  • Conduct written translations (mostly flyers) and oral interpretations (at volunteer events) as needed to support Spanish-speaking clients

 

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to sit at a computer for long periods of the workday
  • Must be able to travel to Win sites and other related meetings throughout New York City
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 40 pounds and do significant physical work
  • Must be able to ascend/descend up to two flights of stairs

  • Previous volunteer and/or customer service experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s/Associate’s degree preferred
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as needed for special events
  • Must be able to manage a high volume of correspondence quickly and professionally
