About Women In Need, Inc.

Women In Need, Inc. is committed to disrupting the cycle of homelessness by offering transitional and supportive housing for families led by women. Many of these families have fled domestic violence and are focused on maintaining safety and unity. Our Income Building Program assists clients in transitioning from unemployment to stable employment, enhancing their circumstances through improved wages, full-time opportunities, health benefits, and formal employment arrangements. Furthermore, we provide financial literacy workshops to empower our clients with vital skills such as budgeting, bill management, and basic financial oversight. With an operating budget of approximately $150 million, we have raised $14 million through private and corporate contributions to support various programs, including the Income Building Program and Camp Win.

Role Purpose

As the Coordinator of Volunteer Engagement, you will take on a pivotal leadership role in shaping community involvement. In this engaging position, you will mentor and guide a skilled team of Volunteer Services Coordinators while working closely with the Director to create and execute innovative volunteer initiatives and in-kind donation programs. Your leadership will be crucial in driving operational excellence, establishing meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, and serving as a strategic partner to the Director. You will oversee a range of exciting projects, from volunteer events and donation drives to special initiatives aimed at young professionals. This role includes opportunities for travel throughout the city, ensuring that our volunteer and donation services make a significant impact.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Oversee four Volunteer Services Coordinators responsible for executing volunteer programs and in-kind donation initiatives.
  • Support Coordinators in their compassionate management of Volunteer Services Interns.
  • Facilitate the professional development of Coordinators, assisting them in identifying and achieving their career objectives.
  • Maintain and update the task management system; ensure that each team member fulfills their responsibilities to meet collective goals.
  • Advocate for staffing needs within the department; manage hiring processes for direct reports, including reviewing applications and screening candidates.
  • Collaborate with the Director to address team member performance issues with empathy and a focus on departmental priorities.
  • Coordinate informal team gatherings to celebrate milestones, achievements, and foster a positive, collaborative environment.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Manage all aspects of volunteerism, including recruitment, screening, onboarding, placement, and recognition.
  • Develop strong relationships with staff across all facilities to identify and address volunteer needs.
  • Build partnerships with corporate and nonprofit volunteer groups to organize events for our shelters and supportive housing programs.
  • Act as a liaison between clients, onsite staff, and volunteer groups to ensure fulfilling volunteer experiences.
  • Establish departmental standards and best practices for volunteer management, emphasizing trauma-informed care and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Assist the Director in organizing the Annual Volunteer & In-Kind Donor Reception and manage volunteer recognition efforts.
  • Reestablish and oversee the Win Associates Committee, a group of young professionals dedicated to organizing volunteer programs and donation drives.

In-Kind Donation Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners to enhance in-kind donor education and support.
  • Collaborate with all program staff to evaluate the impact of in-kind donations and improve internal protocols.
  • Establish best practices for in-kind donation management alongside the Director, focusing on trauma-informed care and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Oversee Donation Room operations, including staff scheduling, task assignments, seasonal organization, and logistics for distribution.
  • Manage various in-kind donation initiatives, including holiday gift programs and back-to-school campaigns.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Programs leadership to execute large-scale donation distributions.
  • Handle a high volume of donor correspondence efficiently and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteers and in-kind donations using various software platforms.

Essential Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites and meetings.
  • Capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate stairs in various locations.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission and values of Women In Need, Inc.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to cultivate effective working relationships.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Salesforce.
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Previous volunteer experience is advantageous.
