You will collaborate with brokers and agents to assess risks, determine appropriate coverage terms, and ensure profitability while meeting client needs. This role requires expertise in professional liability underwriting, strong analytical skills, and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the legal and insurance communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Assessment & Underwriting:
- Evaluate and underwrite lawyer professional liability risks, including those for individual practitioners and law firms.
- Analyze complex risk exposures, including claims history, practice areas, and risk management practices.
- Determine appropriate pricing, terms, and conditions based on risk assessment.
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve profitable growth in the lawyer professional liability segment.
- Portfolio Management:
- Manage a portfolio of lawyer professional liability accounts, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Monitor portfolio performance and adjust underwriting strategies as needed to maintain profitability.
- Conduct regular reviews of existing policies to ensure continued appropriateness of coverage and terms.
- Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and other key stakeholders in the legal and insurance communities.
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and addressing concerns.
- Collaborate with other underwriters and departments to share insights and best practices.
- Market Development:
- Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to expand the lawyer professional liability portfolio.
- Participate in industry events, conferences, and meetings to stay current with market trends and developments.
- Provide feedback on market conditions, competitive landscape, and product development needs.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of underwriting decisions, risk assessments, and policy terms.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Professional designations such as RPLU, CPCU, or similar are preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in professional liability underwriting, with a focus on lawyer professional liability.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
