Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 49 year old multi-service not-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in the Bronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance education and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 families annually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income families, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens. KHCC helps participants overcome adversity and develop the skills they need to build bright futures.


Under the direction of the FCCN Education Director, the FCCN Developmental Services Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that program services are provided to families with children with emotional/developmental needs. The DSC implements, coordinates, and evaluates services and methods for both staff and families in providing This position works within an interdisciplinary team setting with other FCCN Staff and CF staff, using case-management protocols that integrate service areas, to address identified concerns for children.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the developmental progress of infants and toddlers within the Family Child care program.
  • Assist in the identification and referral for Early Intervention (EI) and/or Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) for children with suspected developmental delays
  • Coordinate with community-based Early Intervention service providers and agencies supporting families and children with special needs
  • Ensure that high-quality EI services are being delivered to those children active IFSP’s
  • Track and monitor all EI referrals, and services provided to children with special needs
  • Maintain communication and progress reports with EI or CPSE service providers
  • Provide support and resources to families with children with developmental concerns, before a referral made
  • Support the implementation of preventive support to children with developmental concerns before initiating referral.
  • Provide support, advocacy, and education to families with children being referred to EI or CPSE
  • Maintain communication with families of children receiving EI or CPSE services
  • Attend IFSP/IEP meetings with parents, as needed
  • Support children and families transitioning from EI to CPSE
  • Oversee the individualization of curriculum and activities for children with special needs, in consultation with EHS staff and EI/CPSE therapists
  • Support the individualized needs of children within the FCCN programs
  • Provide routine participation, guidance and observations of children and families within the Family Child Care settings
  • Observe and assess curriculum implementation and child development and education services provided to children
  • Share observations with the FCCN and Changing Future Team, provide on-site guidance, mentoring, training, and technical assistance to the staff and Family Child Care Providers
  • Create professional development plans for staff, identifying resources for training as well as providing on-site training for needed support, in the areas of special needs and Early Intervention
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and trainings
  • Collaborate with education, health, and social service staff to ensure the coordination of services and compliance with EHS/ELNY programmatic requirements
  • Track and monitor all Developmental screenings


Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; handle, or feel; talk, hear, smell, or taste. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
