Duties

As a Engineering Equipment Operator your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Operate a variety of engineering and construction equipment such as bulldozer, excavator, or other attachments to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth when repairing and maintaining trails, roads, canals, tunnels, dikes, ditches, and other work on construction sites. Conduct disking, chopping, mowing, rotovating, digging, loading and leveling to a medium, and/or finish grade for the purpose of shaping of roads and parking lots, and setting of culverts where levels are essential to accommodate rain runoff and water level functions. Perform daily preventative maintenance and makes repairs and adjustments to equipment and attachments. Transport heavy equipment or loads and keep written maintenance records for all equipment operated. Use trade skills to make repairs to refuge facilities.

Drug Testing Position: Selectees tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Driver’s License: Selectees are required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure. Uniform: Official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uniform is required. Probationary Period: Selectees may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Individuals assigned male at birth after 12-31-59 must be registered for the Selective Service. To verify registration visit SSS.gov. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) within six months. Medical Requirements: Selectees must pass a pre-employment medical examination and may be subject to post-employment medical examinations to determine if they are maintaining the fitness standards for this position. Ability to obtain and maintain a Pesticide Applicators License. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

By the closing date of this announcement, you must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X118C, Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupation.

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements.

The screen out element for this position is:
Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).


FINAL KSAs: Operation of Motor Vehicles. Ability to Drive Safely. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading). Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
