The Lead Field Service Engineer will be responsible for providing exceptional technical support and maintenance for laboratory instruments, specifically focusing on Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) systems. This role requires a combination of technical expertise and customer service skills to ensure optimal performance of laboratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, calibrate, and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, with a primary focus on GC/MS systems.
- Utilize various testing instruments, including multimeters and oscilloscopes, to assess equipment functionality.
- Manage the logistics of equipment requiring extensive repairs during scheduled maintenance intervals.
- Diagnose and resolve issues during unscheduled service calls.
- Document and report any irregularities or equipment malfunctions, initiating corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs performed.
- Collaborate with external service providers for repairs covered under maintenance contracts.
- Source parts, estimate costs, and prepare purchase requisitions as needed.
- Monitor instrument reliability and recommend alternative service providers or parts as required.
- Develop and refine maintenance and calibration procedures for laboratory equipment.
- Exhibit foundational knowledge of standard engineering principles and apply them in practice.
- Demonstrate leadership by embodying the company's core values and promoting a positive work environment.
- Contribute to the quality of work produced and adhere to established procedures to meet objectives.
- Engage in effective communication to ensure understanding and clarity in exchanges.
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent trade school certification, accompanied by 2-3 years of relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting heavy objects and performing various physical tasks.
- Proficient in utilizing existing procedures to address standard operational challenges.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate information and apply standard practices in decision-making.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Possess strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Intermediate mathematical skills for calculations related to equipment and maintenance.
