Job Overview

Powers & Sons LLC is looking for a dedicated individual to join our Engineering Team as a Production Engineering Specialist in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This role will report directly to the Manufacturing Manager and requires a collaborative team player. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and Improvement: Formulate, assess, document, and enhance manufacturing techniques.
  • Workforce and Space Planning: Analyze and strategize workforce utilization, spatial requirements, and workflow, while designing equipment and workspace layouts for optimal efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Engage with planning and design teams regarding product design and tooling to ensure effective production methodologies. Adhere to the APQP process and maintain compliance with IATF 16949 standards.
  • Vendor Relations: Communicate with suppliers to ascertain product specifications and arrange for the procurement of equipment, materials, or components, while evaluating products against established specifications and quality benchmarks.
  • Cost Estimation: Calculate production timelines, staffing needs, and associated costs to inform management decisions.
  • Manufacturing Insights: Collaborate with management, engineering, and other personnel regarding manufacturing capabilities, production timelines, and other factors to streamline production processes.
  • Statistical Analysis: Utilize statistical methods to forecast future manufacturing needs and process capabilities.
  • Design Specifications: Design and specify gaging, cutting tools, machine tools, fixtures, and related manufacturing accessories.
  • Cost Savings Analysis: Assess the cost benefits of new or revised machinery/processes and develop costing protocols for manufacturing operations. Provide training on safe operation and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Documentation: Prepare specifications and select suppliers for quotes on gages, cutting tools, machine tools, fixtures, and related manufacturing accessories.
  • Supplier Assistance: Support suppliers of gages, cutting tools, machine tools, fixtures, and accessories with design, timing, delivery, and payment of products.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain project documentation and ensure all relevant records are updated according to Powers and Sons standards.
  • Feasibility Reviews: Review all product designs for manufacturability.
  • Customer Engagement: Assist in customer evaluations of Powers and Sons processes.
  • Employee Involvement: Participate in Employee Involvement initiatives (CCC Projects).
  • Process Analysis: Conduct Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FFMEA) as necessary.
  • Documentation Review: Ensure all PFMEA documents are reviewed, signed by appropriate personnel, and distributed according to Powers and Sons standards.
  • Cost Reduction Programs: Develop initiatives for cost reduction in manufacturing processes using conventional industrial engineering practices.
  • Innovation in Manufacturing: Establish new manufacturing processes utilizing the latest technological advancements.
  • Standards Maintenance: Keep abreast of current methods and tooling, and establish work standards for both existing and new processes.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance for production supervision, including shop floor training in machine operation and tool usage. Define tooling specifications and expected tool life, and coordinate gaging procedures with quality assurance personnel.
  • Process Documentation: Prepare, distribute, and update setup, operation, and reaction plans.
  • Process Sheets: Create, distribute, and log process sheets.
  • Software Operation: Operate CAD/CAM software as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an accredited institution is required, along with certification as a Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE). While five years of experience is preferred, we are open to considering recent graduates and candidates with less than five years of experience. Compensation will be based on experience.
