Job Summary

  • Responsible for all phases of project execution from proposal through acceptance or qualification of the product and/or process.
  • Manage and assist Program Management in all aspects of assigned projects including scope, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Functions as leader of an Integrated Product Team, directing all technical aspects of the New Product Introduction process, capital equipment definition and commissioning, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Functions as the lead interface between customers and internal operations, ensuring that all customer requirements are translated, defined and incorporated into our business and manufacturing systems.
  • Prepares moderately complex quotations and ROM Proposals, supports Value Analysis (VA) Engineering, producibility and manufacturability analysis and continuous process improvement efforts.
  • Participates in the conceptual design of tools and assists in verifying customer tooling functionality.
  • Proficient at mentoring other coworkers with evaluating and coordinate resolution of process issues.
  • Ability to train incoming employees to ensure they are at 45-90day requirements.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Must be capable of performing the following activities associated with new product development and deployment:
  • Scope/Requirements management
  • Interface with customer and supplier engineering to coordinate engineering data and ensure proper flow down of, and compliance to, all internal and external customer requirements.
  • Identify and coordinate tooling requirements, including forming, functional gauging and assembly fixtures. Incorporate tool life cycle analysis into cost management.
  • Coordinate and assist with First Article Inspection requirements.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bill of Material (BOM) requirements.
  • Facilitate planning changes as required for customer engineering/purchase order changes or method improvement/correction changes.
  • Schedule management
  • Prioritize and coordinate project activities for supporting departments and outside suppliers.
  • Define project schedules and establish detail project plan including major milestones. Track and update using Microsoft Project as required.
  • Provide status of each project to the internal and external customers using an appropriate format and methodology.
  • Cost Management
  • Provide cost estimates to support Customer RFQ's and Proposals.
  • Establish budget base lines and ensure execution to plan, FAI and delivery schedules.Perform regular unit cost analysis throughout project lifecycle.
  • Risk Management
  • Implement and maintain a Risk & Opportunities Management Assessment in support of Projects.
  • Develop risk mitigation and opportunity exploitation plans and associated costs. Propose and execute.
  • Assist in writing work instructions (SOP's) to describe in detail the processing steps necessary to produce component or sub-assemblies
  • Coordinate information flow with other engineer team members to make corrections or improvements to planning, tooling, or processes.
  • Formulate Build Plans and manufacturing operations to produce quality components.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position. Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Must be capable of managing projects and function successfully in a matrix organization.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience or education in Earned Value Management processes and systems preferred.
  • Coordinating activities while interacting with other (internal and external) resources.
  • Must possess working knowledge of Unigraphics NX and/or CATIA or other similar CAD Programs.
  • Must be capable of understanding and interpreting engineering and business specifications, statements of work, drawings, and similar defining documents.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Must present to customers, vendors and internal operations, including the senior management team.
  • Understanding of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft structure design and functionality is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the overall Aerospace Industry preferred.
  • Novice; works independently but with supervision. Required Experience and Education
  • BS degree in Engineering; and/or related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-3 years related experience in job function.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace manufacturing.
  • Experience in a matrix organization preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, able to document, create and present project status to customers and management.
  • 4-8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an aerospace products or metals industry
  • Basic CAD software system experience, preferably Unigraphics NX and/or CATIA.
  • Proficient in project management tools, such as Microsoft Project, Excel and Power Point.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Lean Sigma and Value Analysis (VA) Engineering, including design for manufacturability. Work Environment
  • Must have good finger dexterity – computer data entry.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
