ROLE SUMMARY

The MIG Welding Specialist is tasked with executing high-quality welding operations utilizing MIG welding methods on various metal components and structures. This role requires the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, set up welding machinery, and ensure that welds comply with established quality and safety standards.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate MIG welding machines and equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to ascertain welding requirements.
  • Prepare metal surfaces for welding by cleaning, grinding, or cutting as necessary.
  • Monitor and adjust welding parameters, including voltage, wire speed, and gas flow, to achieve optimal weld quality.
  • Perform welding on various metals (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) in multiple positions (flat, vertical, overhead).
  • Inspect finished welds for defects and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet project timelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to welding equipment and processes.
  • Document work performed, including materials used and any discrepancies in welding outputs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in MIG welding techniques and equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of welding methods, processes, and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in welding operations.
  • Capability to assess weld quality and identify and rectify defects.
  • Familiarity with various types of metals and welding processes.
  • Basic mathematical skills for measuring and calculating specifications.
  • Problem-solving abilities for troubleshooting welding challenges.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • Skilled in operating and maintaining welding equipment and related tools.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform welding tasks for extended periods.
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience as a MIG welder or in a similar welding role.

Preferred:

  • Vocational training in welding.
  • Certification in MIG welding (e.g., AWS certified) is advantageous.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time role. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional overtime may be required based on job demands.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a manufacturing setting, which may involve exposure to noise, fumes, and extreme temperatures. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • May require standing for extended periods.
  • May require lifting heavy materials.
  • May require working in various positions.

TRAVEL

No out-of-area or overnight travel is anticipated.
