Position Overview:


A leading Tier 1 Design & Build Contractor specializing in the water sector is seeking a Project Director for a major Desalination Plant initiative in Cornwall. This role is pivotal in steering the overall strategy, coordination, and execution of the project, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives while adhering to timelines and budget constraints.

The successful candidate will oversee project activities, guaranteeing compliance with health and safety regulations and fostering customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Uphold superior safety and quality standards for both direct and subcontracted teams.
  • Ensure the implementation of the Business Management System (BMS) throughout all phases of project delivery, from tender handover to final completion.
  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships at all levels.
  • Safeguard the company’s reputation by nurturing relationships with joint venture partners and suppliers.
  • Ensure the availability of adequately trained personnel, clarifying individual responsibilities.
  • Plan and oversee projects, including the review and approval of the Project Execution Plan (PEP), while monitoring and controlling project delivery.
  • Prepare and approve detailed construction plans and method statements prior to the commencement of activities.
  • At project completion, ensure all records referenced in the PEP are complete and accessible.
  • Report all site non-conformities and identify approximate costs.
  • Manage all commercial aspects of the project proactively, providing accurate forecasts and estimates.
  • Implement Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies and Targets effectively.
  • Focus on meeting customer requirements to enhance their perception and satisfaction.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all technical disciplines related to water and wastewater design and build projects.
  • Possess extensive knowledge and experience in project management practices from inception to end-user acceptance.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary design and construction projects, preferably within the water sector.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction, commercial, or engineering discipline.
  • Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent certification.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with clients, stakeholders, and end users.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive delivery, set targets, and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to achieve time, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Extensive experience in project delivery.
  • Strong strategic, operational, technical, and management skills.
  • Knowledge of Construction Contracts, ideally NEC and/or IChemE, with negotiation and administration capabilities.
  • Experience presenting at Governance Reviews in a leadership capacity.
  • Expertise in Risk & Opportunity Management.
  • Maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach to work, providing transparent and constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with CDM regulations and construction Health & Safety practices.
  • Experience in water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Chartered status with an engineering, commercial, or construction institution.
