About the Position:

This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)).

Serves as the Child and Youth Program Director.

Initiate partnerships to resolve a variety of complex issues regarding child and youth programs for service members and/or their families.Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and/or the capabilities of employees.Deliver presentations to military and/or civilian audiences on child and youth programs available for service members and/or their families.Evaluate support programs reflecting the needs of service members and/or their families.Review assigned programs for potential efficiencies based on joint service initiatives and/or federal partnership opportunities.Formulate department policies as a result of the evolving urgent needs of the Total Force and their families.Test the adequacy of family program policies measured against directives of other Federal agencies.Identify potential problem areas to develop new management and/or program objectives addressing the needs of service members and their families.Requirements Conditions of EmploymentMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.Direct deposit of pay is required.One-year probationary period may be required.Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.One year supervisory probation period may be required. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating child and youth programs addressing the needs of service members and their families, developing policy and procedures regarding child and youth programs, collaborating with stakeholders to address the needs of service members and their families, preparing testimony, reports to congress, decision briefs and/or action memos to facilitate decision making and performing a full range of first-level supervisory responsibilities, such as; assigning work to subordinates, evaluating work performance of subordinates, interviewing candidates for positions and identifying training needs of employees. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).
