The Role

The Utility Locator Technician is accountable for accurately identifying, locating, and protecting company fiber assets and preventing costly repair and restoration due to a fiber cut or damage within a dig or excavation site. This role must locate fiber optic cable to identify if the dig site is clear or if a conflict exists based on locating instructions, and in relation to company fiber asset records in company systems.

  • We are looking for individuals who are in Charlotte, NC
  • Most of your time will be spent out in the field in the city or state that is listed above
The Main Responsibilities
  • Uses various software to perform additional tasks involved with the daily operations of Cable Protection Operations. Maintains tools, test sets, and electronic equipment including, but not limited to fiber optic transmission equipment, lightwave multiplexing equipment, AC and DC power equipment.
  • Identifies and marks all utility locations with paint and capture photos (Prove-IT) for upload to company systems as required. Protect cable and network infrastructure from damage due to faulty locations.
  • Accesses and processes tickets through company systems. Uses various software to perform additional tasks involved with the daily operations of Cable Protection Operations.
  • Updates site records, enter appropriate detailed log information on trouble tickets for reference and provides reports to others on status updates and issues related to assignment.
What We Look For in a Candidate
  • Must be knowledgeable in the efficient operation of test equipment to verify cable faults.
  • Must have a basic ability to read maps, cable plats, and schematics.
  • Must have PC skills and be well versed in Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime are required as dictated by the business.
  • A valid driver's license
  • Sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift 50 lbs.; works in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School, GED or equivalent education and relevant experience
  • 2+ years of related experience
Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$ $56175 in these states: NC
As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
