Summary

Under the supervision of the Field Operations Supervisor, the Senior Water Service Technician plays a crucial role in managing assigned vehicles and job tasks. This position involves addressing customer water service inquiries and investigating high bill complaints. The technician is responsible for completing all assigned work orders and engaging directly with customers to communicate findings from inspections of metering equipment and other factors influencing water usage. The role requires sound decision-making regarding information provided, work performed, and customer interactions to ensure fair resolutions to complaints.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute daily work assignments efficiently.
  • Conduct thorough field inspections of metering devices to ensure proper functionality.
  • Perform maintenance or replacement of water meter registers and endpoints as necessary.
  • Inspect water meter connections for leaks and carry out repairs as needed.
  • Validate meter readings by interrogating endpoints/transmitters and adhering to quality assurance standards.
  • Assess field conditions to identify any irregularities that may lead to excessive consumption and report findings.
  • Document findings, actions taken, and customer interactions on completed service orders.
  • Educate customers on the operational aspects of water meters and radio transmitters.
  • Analyze billing history to determine if complaints arise from changes in charges or service fees.
  • Inform customers about Charlotte Water's meter reading and billing practices, including service repair responsibilities.
  • Complete all assigned service work orders within designated timeframes, accurately recording meter readings and relevant notes.
  • Investigate customer complaints related to meter readings, leaks, water quality, and pressure issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Report any deficiencies in meter vaults or service line repairs promptly.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections of vehicles and field equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
  • Timely report on fire hydrant leaks, water main issues, and other distribution concerns.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands:

This position requires light physical work, including the ability to lift up to 60 pounds. Essential physical abilities include frequent vehicle entry and exit, balancing, crouching, manual dexterity, and the ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels.

Work Environment:

The work environment is dynamic, necessitating adaptability to changing goals and priorities. Responsibilities include outdoor work in various weather conditions, proximity to traffic, and tolerance for seasonal elements. Flexibility in scheduling for overtime and emergency situations is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in customer service and water utility operations.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • AWWA Meter Technician Certification is desirable.

Salary

$45, $50,731.00 Commensurate with Experience
