Job Summary:The Assistant Director Student Leadership Programming creates comprehensive opportunities for leadership development and campus engagement for the entire campus population in assigned department. Assists in developing strategic plans and goals, policies and procedures, staff development, and assessment and evaluation plans for the office. Provides oversight to plan, execute, and host leadership and student development focused events and programming.


Additional Department Summary: Serves as a vital member of the professional team tasked with supporting the promotion and vision of a student population who is engaged and learning to cultivate passion in their area of future influence. Reports to the Director of Student Involvement. Provides support for university community members, as well as members and leaders of the over 650 registered student organizations at UA. Supervises the Coordinator of Student Involvement. Oversees planning and execution of Student Involvement's signature event, Get On Board Day. Supports the Director with overseeing the new student organization registration process. Provides support for organization advisors through coordinated training and resource support. Works to create opportunities for individual student engagement and cultivates a strong culture of involvement exploration among the general student population through intentional programs and services. Provides strategic direction for the office's student leadership development program(s) that supports various populations within the UA student community. Leads the development of new initiatives through this leadership program. Remains up to date on trends and opportunities specific to their specific role and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Holds staff accountable for completion of required expectations, training, or tasks and has some program budget tracking responsibility.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of student life/student affairs experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of student life/student affairs experience.


Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making in an independent work environment. Knowledge and understanding of the role of students and student development. Knowledge and experience in student programming, outreach, and student leadership development. Ability to advise, teach, and coach University students. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information. Strong prioritization and multitasking skills, including ability to manage multiple priorities and willingness to adjust personal schedule to needs of programming, and the necessity to observe, participate in, and evaluate programs. Demonstrated analytical skills including, including ability to gather and analyze complex data and situations in order to draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, students, faculty, staff, alumni and external agencies. Knowledge and proficiency with computers and basic software applications. Knowledge and ability in budget development and monitoring. Demonstrated personnel management experience and ability to recruit, hire, supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate professional and student staff. Demonstrated commitment to expanding multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.


Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree and three (3) years in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or a related field. Graduate or professional experience in student programming/activities, advising student groups and organizations, student involvement, and other student-oriented activities.
