Introduction
The Maryland State Retirement Agency ("Agency") is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System ("System"). The System is a defined benefit pension plan covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. The System has over 400,000 participants (customers),including 192,000 members who are actively employed and enrolled, 170,000 payees who receive a monthly retirement benefit payment, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but who have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date. The agency is seeking to fill a Accountant II position within its Member Services Unit.\r

Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as an accountant in the operations of the reconciliation team in the\r
Reconciliation; Revision Unit. The incumbent reports to the Reconciliation; Revision Unit -\r
Accountant Supervisor I. Primary responsibilities include preparing and reviewing monetary\r
reconciliations of processed retirement applications, retirement estimates, and revision\r
transactions. Preparing manual benefit calculation worksheets to confirm accuracy of\r
retirement transactions, and estimates and retirement worksheets prepared by other staff.\r
Timely and accurate processing of transactions related to these processes are essential\r
elements in aiding the Agency in meeting the objective of our "Mission Statement" which is to\r
effectively communicate to participants and employers' information about benefits provided by\r
the system.\r
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing. \r
Experience: Two years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles. \r
Notes: \r
1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing, for the required education.\r
2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above. \r
3. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience. \r
4. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of the required experience. \r
5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. \r

1) At least one year of demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.\r

2) At least one year of reconciliation experience.\r
\r
\r
3) At least one year of calculating benefits (e.g. retirement, insurance, health, etc.) benefits payable.� � � �\r

4) At least one year of experience creating or approving payment vouchers.\r
