Main Purpose of Job

The Health Occupations Investigator II (HOI II) function as an independent, self-directed investigator.� The main purpose of the HOI II position is the direct responsibility of planning, case review, investigation, thorough analysis, and determining the strategy necessary to properly prepare a case for prosecution and/or alternative resolution.\r

The Health Occupations Investigator II position will serve as an assistant investigator to the primary/senior investigator for the following Health Occupations Boards: Long-Term Care Administrators, Acupuncture, Podiatry,\r
Residential Child Care Administrators, Dietetic Practice, Environmental Health Specialists, and�Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, Hearing Aide Dispensers, Music Therapists.�The HOI II reports directly to the Supervisor of Investigators, while under the daily leadership and direction of the primary/senior investigator.�\r

This position will assist the primary/senior investigator with assigned cases and will serve as the primary investigator\r
on other cases. This position will conduct highly confidential investigations of assigned complaints lodged against health\r
practitioners for fraud, misconduct, or incompetence by patients, other practitioners, attorneys,\r
and other individuals. The HOI II will document investigative findings through professional and thorough\r
written reports. The HOI II will serve subpoenas and disciplinary sanctions, investigate persons applying for\r
reinstatement of licensure after disciplinary sanctions have been lifted, coordinate investigations\r
with Board Counsel, assigned Board Members for cases, and Administrative Prosecutors as\r
needed.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:�Six years of experience conducting criminal investigations, including the preparation of analyses and reports for use in legal proceedings. \r
Notes:\r
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in the field of criminal justice, criminology, law enforcement or an allied health field (such as nursing, pharmacy, psychology, social work, nutrition, dietetics, speech pathology, audiology) from an accredited college or university and two years of experience conducting criminal investigations, including the preparation of analyses and reports for use in legal proceedings for the required experience.\r
2.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as a commissioned officer in�Investigator, Police�and�Intelligence�Specialist�classifications or Investigator, Police and�Intelligence�specialty codes in the criminal�investigation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the�required experience.\r

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate MUST possess 1 year of experience conducting civil (regulatory agency) investigations.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this�classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to have daily use of a motor vehicle while on official State business. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.\r
