Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide primary accounting support to the Maryland AIDS Drug Assistance Program (MADAP) Center. This position will be processing insurance payments by reviewing invoices from various insurance companies for accuracy and compliance with MADAP's policies and procedures as well as other fiscal duties as assigned.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r
Experience: Two years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions. \r
Notes: \r
1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.\r
2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience. \r
3. A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting-related training in a vocational training program in subjects such as journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable may be substituted for one year of the required experience. \r
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience. \r

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One Year Experience/Working knowledge of interpreting health insurance plan invoices for the following insurance plan types:\r

1. Commercial Insurance.\r
\r
\r
2. Medicare Advantage.\r
\r
\r
3. Medicare part D.\r
\r
\r
4. Qualified Health Plans (QHP).\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:\r

1. Experience identifying and correcting discrepancies in account balances.\r
\r
\r
2. Experience/Skills in building spreadsheets to capture accounting data for the preparation of fiscal/financial reports.\r
\r
\r
3. Experience/Knowledge in reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.\r
\r
\r
4. Experience/Ability to communicate effectively.\r
\r
\r
5. Experience/Skills in time management to work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.\r
