Position Overview:
SEGD is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Membership Development to lead the expansion and enhancement of our membership community. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in membership growth, nonprofit organizations, and development. They will be responsible for adding significant membership value, increasing membership growth, overseeing our existing 40 chapter network, and ensuring the consistent management of volunteer staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive membership growth strategy that aligns with SEGD's mission and goals. Identify opportunities to expand membership and enhance member engagement.

Membership Value: Evaluate and enhance the value proposition for SEGD members. Create and promote programs, resources, and benefits that meet the evolving needs of our community.

Chapter Network Oversight : Serve as the primary liaison to SEGD's 40 chapters. Provide guidance, support, and resources to chapter leaders to ensure consistent and effective operations.

Volunteer Management: Oversee and support the management of volunteer staff. Ensure volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, and engaged in SEGD's activities.

Community Engagement: Foster a sense of community and belonging among SEGD members. Organize and participate in events, webinars, and other initiatives that connect members and promote professional development.

Data and Analytics: Utilize data-driven insights to monitor membership trends, identify areas for improvement, and measure the success of membership initiatives.

Collaboration: Work closely with SEGD's leadership team, staff, and volunteers to achieve organizational goals. Collaborate with other departments to integrate membership strategies into overall organizational initiatives.

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field; with minimum 5 years experience.
  • Proven experience in membership growth and development within nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong understanding of membership value creation and engagement strategies.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate volunteer staff.
  • Creative and visionary mindset with the ability to bring new ideas to a small, collaborative team.
  • Interest in assisting with SEGD's continued development of systems for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the organization and the field.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Work Space, project management software, and openness to learning new administrative applications.
  • Knowledge of analytics to increase membership retention and engagement.
  • Experience with membership management software is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a hybrid work setting.
  • Must reside in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area (DMV).
