The Research Engineer will utilize fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of electrical engineering to perform scientific research and development of power electronic systems. The successful candidate will evaluate, select, and apply standard scientific techniques and procedures to accomplish research assignments, including conducting experiments, writing research proposals, and writing technical papers and research reports.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, test, and demonstrate power electronic systems hardware with power converters, advanced control systems, and analog-digital mixed power controllers.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to achieve research goals and objectives.
- Work on an externally funded project under the supervision of a professor in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama.
- Develop and test/validate power electronic systems hardware with power levels exceeding 10 kW and/or voltages of up to 1000 V.
- Prepare and write reports, and assist in lab management, maintenance, and safety.
- Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of research experience; OR master's degree and some research experience.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Excellent electrical and good mechanical skills.
- Significant experience in one or more of the technical or research areas related to the project.
