About The Role

The Manager of Development Accounting reports directly to the Senior Manager of Development Accounting in The Woodlands, TX. The position is responsible for basic accounting and reporting functions for our Summerlin Development Projects located in Summerlin, Nevada. This includes but is not limited to; supervising month-end close, preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, roll forwards, and assisting with financial statement preparation and maintaining effective internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Act.

The Manager ensures that development cost ledgers are complete and accurate and are in accordance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures. This position helps ensure that development activities are accurate and project reports are prepared monthly.

Additionally, the position helps ensure that project costs do not exceed authorized development budgets, development contracts and commitments. The position will help administer the contract administration process (involves input of development commitments, contracts and change orders into Coupa and/or e-Builder along with the verification of invoice coding and approvals) as it relates to these projects. Additionally, the position will ensure that loan draws are processed timely and accurately, and that the payment process is current. The Manager will work closely with the Senior Manager of Development Accounting and the Development Team in monitoring annual and project budgets as well as updating cash forecasts. The position must have proven ability to communicate directly with the Segment Controller, Corporate Accounting, external auditors, senior management, etc.

What You Will Do

  • Supervising month-end close, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, roll forwards, and financial statements.
  • Ensures capitalized costs are recorded in compliance with Company's Capitalization policy
  • Monitor and communicate project budgets and actual costs.
  • Ensures development budgets, contract payments and commitments are not exceeded.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Assist in preparation and review monthly job costs reports.
  • Oversee the Reconciliation of job costs ledgers to general ledger and monthly Job Cost Report.
  • Assist site personnel on development accounting related matters.
  • Administration and maintenance of JD Edwards general ledger and job cost applications.

About You

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of accounting experience required.
  • Big 4 accounting experience is preferred.
  • Real estate industry and real estate development or project cost accounting experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and related products.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate directly with Segment Controller, Corporate Accounting, external auditors, senior management, etc.
  • Public Accounting experience preferred.
  • Large company experience.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards general ledger application or similar ERP system.
  • Knowledge of eBuilder or other project management system.
  • Knowledge of Coupa, Blackline and Hubble.
  • A team player who has the ability to multi-task and is self-directed.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Must be deadline focused, organized and exhibit problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Handle a dynamic work environment with competing priorities.
